YYZ Artists Outlet is pleased to present site-specific text and a reading room by Leeds, UK-based collaborative group otiose.
This collaborative art group from England state, “household space is a place and narrative present in most of our lives. Animated and occupied by the needs and desires of private, public and commercial interests, it can yield contradictory and discreet commentaries for the topographies of residential space.”
showhouse is an ongoing sequence of performances, texts and installation works focused on witnessing and questioning the expectations, memories and actualities that inhabit and contextualize household space. At YYZ, showhouse will include a reading room as well as a program of site-specific texts for off-sites homes. At the residences, over a three-week period, otiose will make public a body of texts that are intended to map and document the permeable border between private space and its public, commercial representation.

otiose is a collaborative made up of two people: Ailith Roberts and John Dummett. For the past four years in the UK, otiose have been making durational performances, temporary archives and site-specific forums with the intention of negotiating the different relationships between site, habitual behaviour and public.
