it’s what’s inside that counts is an exhibition that swirls around ideas of speculative horror and the monstrous return, confusing the boundaries between surface and depth. As languidly contemplative waters become abysmal and disorienting, this grouping of new works by Christine Negus offers an immersive experience using language and humour to confront anxieties surrounding alienation and eco-loss.
Within this show, the politics of display and “the remake” are addressed through an assemblage of ghostly forms. Across these unfulfilling re-creations, the normative understandings of space and time are delightfully disrupted. With their material lure, impostor objects provide experiential trickery, as anachronistic disturbances and haunting realities hide just below the surface.
