Remember to bring aspirin to YYZ as this exhibition of new work by Toronto artist, Alexander Irving, promises to delight while leaving the viewer with a slight ache – head and heart.
Created in 2000, this series of black india ink drawings on paper of alcoholic drinks – martinis, whiskey sours, bloody mary’s, and plain old lagers – may rekindle some lazy moments of longing. A melancholy moment in which one can only find beauty staring intensely at a Maker’s Mark on the rocks. Arranged on the wall salon style, the drawings present themselves with the force and insistence of a hangover. And, just as your aspirins are kicking in, a couple of flashing and buzzing neon drawings will make you wish you hadn’t bought that no-name brand
