The exhibition The Cops and Robber Task presents a series of Cindy Ji Hye Kim’s most recent paintings and sculptures. Working with oil, acrylic, and pastel on canvas, Kim’s paintings explore the boundaries of lived experience and the fictional stage of memory, which is mediated through various visual devices she uses in her studio. What do you see when you close your eyes? What do you see when you try to remember? The images of cameras, projectors, and monitors partake in the narrative function of perception and artifice, stepping in and out of the painting as an observer, a voyeur, and a subject.
