Questioning ideas of identity and individuality with respect to the importance placed on one’s name, Fassler photographed Toronto ‘doppelgangers.’ Based on the Toronto phone book, names that are identical both in last and first and only those that occur twice were chosen. These unique parties were then invited to meet and to be photographed together at YYZ.

Larissa Fassler is a Canadian artist who lives and works in Berlin. Based on participant observations of changing urban geographies and cultures, she creates drawings, sculptures, and paintings that analyze and map these realities.
