Byte repeatedly redirects one’s attention to different aspects of the same 12 second video clip where mother and daughter sing into each other’s mouths. Presented in a format of stacked monitors, Byte makes reference to how the media recontextualizes events and how perception and reality differ.

Lyla Rye
Lyla Rye received her BFA from York University in 1989 and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1994. She was a founding member of the Toronto collective Nether Mind which exhibited from 1991 – 1995. She has had solo exhibitions of her work at the Women’s Art Resourse Centre (Toronto), The Glendon Gallery (Toronto), The Koffler Loggia Gallery (Toronto), and The Southern Exposure Gallery in San Francisco. One of the pieces selected for the current exhibition, Noodge, was first shown as part of the 23rd room’s Flash 2000 Project and is currently accessible on the internet.
